LEAF MAN

leaf man book

At bilingual classes we are working on this book because it has got some delicious ilustrations and we are collecting leaves to create our own book.

The story is about  a man, made of leaves, blows away, travelling wherever the wind may take him, in a fresh, autumn tale with illustrations made from actual fall leaves and die-cut pages on every spread that reveal gorgeous landscape.

The author and the ilustrator is Lois Ehlert . She works on   children's books, most having to do with nature.

Here is her official web http://hopeistheword.wordpress.com/2009/02/18/authorillustrator-spotlightlois-ehlert/

BONFIRE NIGHT

Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night , is an annual celebration held on the evening of 5th  November to mark the failure of the Gunpodwer plot of 5th November 1605, in which a number of Catholic conspirators , including Guy Fawkes, attempted to destroy the  Houses of Parlament in London.

The occasion is primarily celebrated in Great Britain, to commemorate. the deliverance of the King of England, Scotland, and Ireland. It is also celebrated in some former British colonies including New Zealand, Newfoundland, South Africa, parts of the Caribbean and the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda. Bonfire Night was celebrated in Australia until the mid-to-late 1970s.

Festivities are centred on the use of fireworks and the lighting of bonfires.

At bilingual classes we made some crafts about fireworks and a big mural to remember one of the most famous rhyme:

fireworks

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...

Traditional Bonfire Night Food

As well as burning effigy of Guy Fawkes, the bonfires are used to cook jacket potatoes and sausages cooked over the flames and marshmallows toasted in the fire. Here there are some photos about our chestnut party and the roasted marshmallows, they were delicious!!!
