ERASMUS+IRLANDA

IES Pedra da Auga Secondary School will take part in an ERASMUS+ Project with several other schools from Ponteareas and Archbishop McHale College from Tuam (Galway, Ireland)

The project will last three years, and at the end it will be presented during the commemoration of Galway as the European Capital of Culture 2020 as an example of good practices of collaboration between galician and irish schools.

Project Blog

The project is specially aimed at the sharing of knowledge about the ways of coexistence between local endangered languages (Galician and Irish) and international languages (Spanish and English respectively) in the schools.

       Tuam                              Ponteareas

Every year a group of 5 students (at 4th ESO, aged 15-16) from our school will receive in their families an Irish student each. They will share with him/her the school activities during one week, and then a group of 5 students from our school will travel together with colleagues form the other participating schools - 5 from IES Val do Tea and 5 from IES Ponteareas- to Ireland to take part during a week in their everyday school life.

During the school year, a Skype meeting will be held every month among all the participating schools to share the knowledge acquired during the project about common topics (language, culture, nature, arts, economy, etc). All this material will be placed at a common website for the project.

Information developed by our students will be gathered to create a TV program in order to present our community to the rest of the world. These programs will be emitted by the Galician TV (TVG) as well as by the Irish Channel TG4.

We hope that all the participants will have a lot of fun -and learn- during these activities!
