PDI: "Galicianise yourself"

As you know, the topic of the PDI of this school year is “Galeguízate”  Well, in the English classroom we tried to give it an English “touch” and share it with our friends of a school in Manchester: St. James´ C of E Primary School.

What could we do?Well, first we translated the name of the project into English: “GALICIANISE YOURSELF”. Then we asked for some help to our dear native speakers: Susana Barreiro and Declan Mathews, regular collaborators of our school. Also, we invited Critina Pato and Marc Guscin to come and visit us. Finally, and after some research, we tried to explain our penpals in Manchester who we are. We divided our work in 3 terms:

1.- During the first term we introduced ourselves as Galicians with the help of Susana Barreiro and Cristina Pato.

2.- On the second term we found out more our ancestors, the Celts, with Declan Mathews.

3.- And finally, on the third term, we discovered other Coruñas around the world thanks to Marc Guscin.

And we recorded everything in the school radio to send some podcasts to Manchester. And they love our Project!

Do you want to know more about it? Are you ready for a "Galician experience" in English? Take a look at this presentation: it is full of surprises!

PDI - GALICIANISE YOURSELF: "Our ancestors, the Celts"

As you already know,  “Galicianise yourself” or “Galeguízate” is the title of our PDI for this school year 2022-2023, and it is related to the tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Examples of tangible cultural heritage include traditional clothing, tools, buildings, artwork, monuments, and modes of transportation. On the other hand, intangible cultural heritage refers to things that are not physical items but exist intellectually, such as language, rituals, traditions, legends, music, dance, food…

In our first approach to the topic, we introduced ourselves as Galicians, highlighting our traits, our roots, our essence as Galicians. Well, in this ocassion we want to find out more about our ancestors, the Celts, and see our connections with Ireland. We present our findings in an interactive infographic made collaboratively among all the students in year 5 and 6:

     1.- The Celts, main facts - 6C

2.- The wheel of the year - 6B

     3.- Celtic connections: Coruña & Ireland - 6A

     4.- Celtic words - 5A - 5B - 5C

Ready for a Celtic experience? Take a leaf of an oak tree and, with it in your hands, be a Celt for a while!

GALICIANISE YOURSELF

“Galicianise yourself” or “Galeguízate”, this is the title of our PDI for this school year 2022-2023. The topic is related to the tangible and intangible cultural heritage. This refers to the legacy of physical artifacts and intangible attributes of a group or society that are inherited from past generations, maintained in the present and passed to future generations. Examples of tangible cultural heritage include traditional clothing, tools, buildings, artwork, monuments, and modes of transportation. On the other hand, intangible cultural heritage refers to things that are not physical items but exist intellectually, such as language, rituals, traditions, legends, music, dance, food…

In this first approach to the topic, we want first to introduce ourselves as Galicians. What does it mean to be a Galician? What are our roots? Under the title "THIS IS US", we want to transmit you our traits, our roots, our essence as Galicians. Are we peculiar?  Are we different from people of other communities or regions? Oh, we definitely are, but in a good way. We are "riquiños", "teimudos" and a bit "repunantes". What else? Keep on searching in this interactive image and you will find out soon. Are you ready for a "Galician experience" under the guidance of students in year 5 and year 6? There we go!!!

4 IN A YEAR: AUTUMN

As you know, this school year we are developing a project about the seasons called "4 in a year" with the groups in year 5 and year 6. Our goal is to learn as much as possible about the 4 seasons of the year through different activities and using the new technologies. Well, our first approach has to do with the autumn or fall. In the interactive image below, you can see the vocabulary we have learned, watch our classroom display, read our recommendations to go green in autumn, listen to the podcast we have recorded in our school radio station, and enjoy some images created with AI (Artificial Intelligence). To do so, we have used a programme called Wombo Dream: we just entered a prompt (3-4 words related to the autumn), picked an art-style and waited until Wombo turned our idea into an AI-powered painting. And the results couldn´t be better. Take a look...Here it is the whole experience of the autumn for you to enjoy.
