Hello everybody!

 

My name is Jose and I am a Primary School teacher in our school. One of my duties is to teach Arts&Crafts lessons through English language to my First-Grade pupils (6-7 year olds)

O meu nome e Jose e son mestre de primaria na nosa escola. Unha das miñas tarefas é ensinar “Educación Plástica” en inglés os meus alumnos de primeiro de primaria (6-7 anos)

 

 

This year I had the great opportunity to attend an Erasmus+ course in a foreign country. Erasmus+ is the EU's programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. Its budget of €14.7 billion provides opportunities for over 4 million Europeans to study, train, and gain experience abroad.

 

Este ano tiven a gran oportunidade de participar nun curso Erasmus+ nun país estranxeiro. Erasmus+ é o programa da Unión Europea que apoia a formación no sector educativo, xuventude e deporte en Europa. O seu presuposto de 14,7 mil millóns de euros ofrece oportunidades a máis de 4 millóns de europeos para estudar, formarse, e desfrutar de experiencias no estranxeiro.

So... long, long time ago.... when you still could travel safely overseas, I decided. to embark on this journey and pick as my destination Edinburgh, capital city of Scotland.

 

 

 

Así que, fai moito, moito tempo... cando aínda podías viaxar con seguridade polo estranxeiro, decidín embarcarme nesta aventura e escoller como destino Edimburgo, capital de Escocia.

 

 

I attended during February a 7-days training course at “Inlingua Edinburgh”, an English and Language School in Scotland. The aims of this course were to cover effective communication and practical teaching skills as well as an introduction to Scottish culture. There was also an opportunity to improve speaking and listening skills as well as fluency through their “Spoken Performance” sessions.

 

Fun facer un curso de sete días no mes de febreiro en “Inlingua Edinburgo”, unha academia de linguas en Escocia. Os obxectivos deste curso foron o desenrolo da comunicación efectiva e destrezas prácticas na ensinanza, así como unha introdución a cultura escocesa. Tamén tiven a oportunidade de mellorar as miñas competencias lingüísticas a través das sesións de “Spoken Performance”.

 

I have shared this experience with five more colleagues: three teachers from Asturias, one from Poland and another one from Ukraine. It was also a great opportunity to compare similarities and differences between the educational systems of these countries and ours.

 

 

 

Compartín esta experiencia con cinco compañeiras máis: tres mestras de Asturias, unha de Polonia e outra de Ucrania. Tamén foi unha gran oportunidade para comparar os parecidos e as diferenzas entre os sistemas educativos destes países e o noso.

 

 

The development of the course was focused on CLIL methodology (one of the main reasons I decided to choose this one) CLIL stands for Content and Language Integrated Learning, and it's a fabulous language immersion method that aims at teaching subjects such as science, history, geography and art to students through a foreign language

Some of the activities we were dealing with, involved:

-       How to encourage our pupils to use L2 (English Language) in our lessons.

-       How to use L1 (mother tongue) in our CLIL lessons and gradually dismiss it by using different techniques.

-       How to use materials to facilitate, encourage and improve our student´s learning.

-       How to put into practice games and activities to foster our student´s motivation.

-       How to assess and get feedback of the whole learning process.

 

O desenrolo do curso estivo centrado na metodoloxía CLIL (unha das razóns máis importantes pola que decidín escollelo) CLIL significa Aprendizaxe Integrada de Contidos e Linguaxe, e é un método fabuloso para a inmersión na linguaxe que persegue a educación dos estudantes en diferentes contidos como por exemplo ciencias, historia, xeografía e arte a través dunha lingua estranxeira.

Algunha das actividades nas que participamos, tiñan que ver con:

-       Como animar os nosos estudantes a usar L2 (lingua inglesa) nas nosas clases.

-       Como usar L1 (lingua materna) nas nosas clases CLIL e gradualmente eliminala por medio de diferentes técnicas.

-       Como usar materiais para facilitar, animar e mellorar a aprendizaxe dos nosos alumnos/as.

-       Como poñer na práctica xogos e actividades para fomentar a motivación dos nosos alumnos/as.

Another important dimension of this course was the cultural immersion:

 

"Edinburgh Old and New Towns" were together inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1996. The former includes the medieval Royal Mile which runs from Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and is bordered to the north by the neo-classical 18th century "New Town" which includes Princes Street.

 

 

 

Outra dimensión importante deste curso foi a inmersión cultural:

 

A parte vella e nova de Edimburgo foron inscritas como Patrimonio da Humanidade en 1996. A Primeira, “Old Town”, inclúe a “Royal Mile” (Milla Real) medieval que vai dende o castelo de Edimburgo ata o palacio de Holyroodhouse, e limita ó norte co “New Town” (a parte nova da cidade) deseñada no século 18 cunha arquitectura neoclásica.

 

This was, for sure, an amazing and enriching experience that I recommend to everyone.

 

Finally, I want to thank all my School colleagues for replacing me and endure my duties during those days.

 

 

 

Esta foi, sen dúbida, unha incrible e enriquecedora experiencia que recomendo a todo o mundo.
