BASEBALL

BASEBALL is a very popular sport in the United States.

It´s ORIGIN comes from England, and is similar to a game called Rounders.

But the first true baseball game was played in New York in 1845.

In Baseball each team has NINE players.

The teams are permitted to have an UNLIMITED number of SUBSTITUTIONS.

To play baseball we need this EQUIPMENT:

- BAT

- BALL

- HELMET

- GLOVE

- CAP/ HAT

- CLEATS

- JERSEY

Some ACTIONS we use to play:

- RUN

- THROW

- SWING

- HIT

- CATCH

If the BATTER tries to HIT the BALL and they miss the ball it is called a STRIKE.

If the BATTER hits the ball they run to FIRST BASE, then SECOND BASE, then THIRD BASE, then HOME.

If they hit the ball very far and then run all the bases in one trip it is called a HOMERUN.

There are 9 INNINGS. One inning = 3 outs for each team.

The teams receive an out if they have 3 STRIKES or if the ball arrives at the BASE before the RUNNER.

We play baseball in a FIELD.

The people who watch the baseball game sit in the STADIUM.

In baseball we do not use the words points. We say RUNS.

If Team A has 4 and Team B has 6 we say that Team B WINS because they have more RUNS.

If Team A has 2 runs and Team B has 2 runs there is a TIE.

The TIE BREAKING METHOD is to play more INNINGS.

The duracion of a baseball game depends on how many innings we have to play.

Some baseball games can be one  hour, some games can be 4 hours. It depends.

There are 2 REFEREES in baseball.

My favorite team is the San Francisco Giants.

This year the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS won the WORLD SERIES.

THE WORLD SERIES is a very important tournament in the United States for baseball.

A famous player from this team is Willie Mays.

Willie Mays had 660 HOMERUNS during his CAREER.

We use the name LEGEND to describe Willie Mays because he has RETIRED and no longer plays baseball, but he had a lot of talent and was very good at the sport.

The HALL OF FAME is a MUSEUM for baseball.

There are PHOTOS, AUTOGRAPHS, and JERSEYS inside the hall of fame.
